Canadian Friends are excited to present the new “Outreach Program” which
is scheduled to begin in November of 2007. The program will first be run
as an “Outreach” program with the main goal of providing support to the
monastery in a variety of ways.
Each year a select group of skilled individuals will be chosen to go to the Monastery for a 2 weeks to a one month stay. During their stay they will bring a donation to the Monastery for each of their main need funds, ex: Food Fund, Teachers Fund and Medical Funds.
These donations will be raised by various fundraising activities and personal donations of the individuals planning to participate in the Outreach program.
As well these individuals will bring a skill or trade over to the monastery that they will use to help train or teach the monks in areas such as teaching English, Nursing and Medicine, First Aid Training, Health and Hygiene, Electrical Engineering etc.
Each year the organization and the monastery will work together to address needs and complete projects that will benefit the overall living conditions of all the monastery’s inhabitants. Ex: Construction of the new Hospital and Library.
The program will be a “hands-on” opportunity for people interested in helping out to go over and make a difference in the lives of all those at the monastery. In return they will get to experience the true Tibetan culture and language. They will get a first-hand look at the monastery and the monk’s way of life, the country in which they now live and the struggles they face there.
As well, they will hopefully develop a lasting friendship with and support for the monks.
If successful the program will later become an “Exchange Program” which will eventually see monks coming in from India to Canada to share their skills, talents and culture with the Canadian people.
